Poland could co-host Euro 2012 with Germany, says football chief

Poland could co-host Euro 2012 with Germany if co-organiser Ukraine is not ready on time, new Poland football federation president said Thursday.

• “If Ukraine doesn’t make it on time then we can organise the tournament together with Germany,” Grzegorz Lato told the TVN news channel.
• Earlier on Thursday, Ukraine Euro 2012 tournament organiser Evgeny Villinsky said about 80 t of the preparations had been stopped because of the global financial crisis and ill-advised management.
• In 2007, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said his country intended to pay for an estimated $40 billion overhaul to infrastructure.
• Earlier this year, UEFA president Michel Platini warned that Poland and Ukraine would be at risk of loosing some or even all games scheduled if infrastructure failed to meet international standards by 2012.
