Political leaders reluctant to sign a petition against the French colonialism

The names of influential political figures from the two major Algerian parties, National Liberation Front (FLN) and National Democratic Rally (RND)were absent from the list forwarded by a group of parliamentarians to the parliament in a move to discuss a proposal aiming at incriminating the French colonialism in Algeria. The petition that has been forwarded to Algerian Parliament alongside the bill reveals the absence of outstanding figures supposed to be the project’s forerunners on account of their positions within the political institution, including the chairman of the FLN parliamentary group Al Ayachi Daadouaa.

  • Absence of the new Central Committee’s Members
  •  In addition to the absence of Al Ayachi Daadouaa several other figures from the old party were counted out including the Chairman of the Algerian Farmers’ Union Mohammed Alioui and the Martyrs’ sons Organization Secretary General Tayeb Alhouari. The three figures were recently appointed among the members of the Party’s new Central Committee during the 9th conference that took place here in Algiers.
  • In a declaration to Echourok, the initiators of the proposal have revealed that they moved three times to the RND spokesman Miloud Chorfi in a bid to forward him the proposal after the announcement made by parliament’s chairman Abdelaziz Ziari in which he expressed his will expand the proposal to all the parties represented in the parliament, but they didn’t receive any feed back from him.
  • Labors’ Party… abstention and interrogations
  • The Labor Party’s deputies have also declined to sign the petition despite several attempts to convince them by the initiators. But the same deputies have backed the initiative and declared that they will sign the petition in the beginning.
  • However, several other deputies from the other parties like the Movement for Society of Peace, Algerian National Front and both Enahdha and Islah movements signed the putting the total number to 100 surpassing the quorum fixed to 20.
