President Abdellaziz Bouteflika pledges hike in minimum guaranteed wage “SMIG” during next tripartite meeting.

Taking the floor during his working visit of inspection on Tuesday to the province of Oran, in western Algeria, the President of the Republic Abdellaziz Bouteflika pledged a hike in the index – linked minimum guaranteed wage –SMIG-, now set at 12.000 Dinars, during the next tripartite meeting bringing together the Government, the Employers and the General Worker's Union –UGTA-.  

• In a keynote and freewheeling speech in Arzew on the occasion of the celebration of the twin anniversary of the creation of the UGTA and the nationalization of hydrocarbons, the head of state announced that the Algerian state would devote in the coming years the equivalent of 150 billion dollars of public resources to the ongoing development effort while continuing to mobilize and attract national and foreign investors through various incentive measures.

• President Bouteflika who dwelt on national socio – economic issues said that if he secured, through the electors’ backing, a third mandate at the helm of the nation during the April 9th Presidential polls, he would strive to foster a solid and profit – yielding national economy and consolidate a perennial labour market in Algeria.

• President Bouteflika also pledged to fight unemployment notably among the Algerian youth, to upgrade the workers’ purchasing power and to stamp out the scourge of corruption in the country.

• In a separate file, the President of the Republic evoked the status of those “patriots” who fully engaged in the anti-terrorism struggle, stressing that the state would not forget them and that their legitimate rights would be duly taken into account in view of their steadfast commitment in the defense of Algeria’s stability and security.
