The President of the Republic Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika said on Monday that everyone is entitled to strive for power, but on condition that Algeria and the supreme interests of the people are placed above all considerations.

“It is our duty to contribute to this pluralistic democratic movement while making Algeria and the supreme interests of its people above all,” the head of state Abdelaziz Bouteflika said in a timely message read out on his behalf in the eastern province of Naâma by Mudjahidine or War Veterans Minister Mr Tayeb Zitouni on Monday March 19th on the occasion of the celebration of “Victory Day”.

According to the President of the Republic, it is “necessary that our society continues to promote the culture of rights and freedoms and the preservation of its collective and supreme interests”.

Despite the ongoing crisis, the head of state underlined that “our country is able to emerge, unscathed and victorious over its current and cyclical financial difficulties”.

“Today, and in the face of the fluctuations of the international (oil) market which has led to the loss of half of its external revenues, Algeria is smoothly adapting to the new situation and, within the framework of national sovereignty, has mobilized its capacities to get out of this difficult juncture, by maintaining the building process and shifting towards an economy free from excessive dependence on hydrocarbons,” added the head of state.

Referring to the national tragedy of the 90s, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika paid tribute to the National People’s Army for the “enshrinement of the lofty resistance”.
