President Abdellaziz Bouteflika's late mother Mansouria Ghezlaoui who passed away Sunday night was born in the locality of Sidi Daoudi in the Tlemcen area, in western Algeria, and hails from a conservative family imbued with traditional and religious values and enjoyed the respect and regard of all and sundry in the region.

Late Mansouria who was the eldest of the family of 3 children used to give a helping hand to her mother Yamina in the housework and in the upbringing of her sisters and brother Boumedienne, Aouicha and Mama.

Her father was at that time an agricultural worker.

Late Mansouria was a great and precious help to her mother before her marriage later in her life with Ahmed Bouteflika who hailed from the town of Nedroma in the west of Algeria.

Her husband was a trader and they had 5 children namely Abdellaziz, Nacer, Abdelghani, Zhor and Latifa.

Abdellaziz was the eldest. The daughter of late Mansouria’s brother Lamia Ghezlaoui told reporters of Echorouk who paid her a courtesy visit in Sidi Daoudi yesterday, that the deceased was very keen on visiting, more often than not, the family house in Sidi Daoudi.

During her visits, she never forgot to bring with her candies and presents for the children.

She was very kind and very attentive with the children, she indicated.

Lamia Ghezlaoui described late Mansouria as a very nice and lettered woman who instilled the best values in the minds of her 5 children including Abdellaziz Bouteflika whom she cherished a great deal.

Late Mansouria, said Lamia Ghezlaoui, was very proud when her son Abdellaziz Bouteflika joined at an early age the ranks of the national liberation Army –ALN- during the lofty armed struggle for Algeria’s freedom and independence.

During that period, she saw him only a few times.

After Algeria’s independence, Abdellaziz Bouteflika, said Lamia Ghezlaoui, took the whole family in charge after the death of his father Ahmed.

All the family members, called Abdellaziz Bouteflika “Habibi” or “the loved one” as her late mother used to call him.

Late Mansouria who had devoted her whole life to the good rearing of her 5 children, always remained heartily close to her cherished son Abdellaziz Bouteflika whose utmost respect, love, affection and gratitude towards her were always telling and unfailing.

As head of state, Abdellaziz Bouteflika never left the country for a visit or for a summit meeting overseas without first visiting his late mother who implored Allah Almighty to guide him, to make him vanquish the unjust and to help him succeed in all his endeavours at the helm of the Algerian nation.
