President orders governors to attend government’s council meetings
Riots in Oran province (west of Algiers).

The Algerian president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika ordered the attendance of the Walis (governors of the provinces) in the government’s councils meetings following the last wave of protests witnessed in various regions of the country.

  •  The governors will have the opportunity to discuss with the members of the government the citizens’ grievances and try to find immediate solutions for future problems.
  •  According to “Echourouk” sources, Tamanrasset’s governor (southern Algeria) will today, take part in the government’s council meeting as part of a procedure initiated by the presidents in the past, but was abandoned over the last few months.
  •  This measure aims at alleviating the populations’ sufferings and ease tensions by listening to their grievances through their representative in the person of the governor. It will be also an opportunity to treat urgent matters through a battery of measures.
  • In this respect, sources reveal that the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika showed signs of extreme dissatisfaction to the tardiness witnessed in the different development projects launched in various parts of the country which resulted in the last protests recently.
  •  To recall the Algerian government allocated an additional budget amounted to 4200 billion Algerian Dinars as a part of a large development program likely to boost the national economy.
