Prices of dairy products, tomatoes and pasta increased by 30%
Prices of consumed products have noticed a crazy high increase, including powder milk, dairy products such as “yogurt” and cheeses, and even stuffed tomatoes and pasta of all kinds.
Rate of increase ranged between 25 and 30%, as milk noticed a fluctuation in supply.
Algerians were surprised by the high increase in the prices of products that are extensively consumed with the new year, especially powder milk, and this because of the high demand for them as a result of the lack of supply with bags of milk in several cities, according to the Association of Milk Producers which complained about a lack of subsidized powder milk fortified, accusing some parties of turning it into factories of making cheese, as the rate of powder milk increased between 15 and 20 dinars.
Prices of milk products of different types like cheeses and yogurt reached 5 dinars per can.
Stuffed tomatoes with various types, noticed increases that reached 10 dinars, as one pack of tomatoes in retail markets reached between 60 to 70 dinars, and the high price of tomatoes of good quality reached 120 to 130 dinars. In parallel, prices of dough have also increased with the new year, as it increased by 10 and 12%.
Average increase in prices of products that are largely consumed reached between 25 and 30%.
In this subject, Head of the General Union of Algerian Traders and Craftsmen, Hadj Taher Boulanouar, told Echorouk that the reason behind the high prices in the basic goods is the increase in the global market by food suppliers.
“I am surprised of the increase percentage that reached the limits of 30%. Retailers complained of a lack of milk bags due to the prices of powder milk. A large number of cheese factories use the subsidized powder milk in cheese-making, and this has an impact on the price”.
The spokesman did not find a justification for the high price by merchants, but the price increase at the wholesalers because of the new prices by suppliers and importers in the global market for basic materials.
