PSA Group Is Waiting For Algerian Government's Agreement To Produce 75.000 Cars Annually

PSA is waiting for the green light from the Algerian government for the construction of a plant in Algeria, for the production of 75.000 cars a year, Director of Peugeot Citroen company in Africa and the Middle East, Jean-Christophe Quémard, said in an interview with the “Jeune Afrique” magazine.

“PSA factory understands all the Algerian government’s conditions, which aim to create an industrial activity to develop the economy, and encourage the labor and technological transfer, which are factors that PSA company seeks to devote in Algeria, which is one of the most important markets in Africa, and which has historical ties with Peugeot, especially after the brand’s great boom that is witnessed in the Algerian market”.

“PSA factory’s file in Algeria is on the Algerian government’s table since six months ago, and is waiting for a big response by the Algerian authorities, if we will received a positive response, we will be ready to take a plane and come to Algeria immediately, which shows the great attention that is given by Peugeot brand private to the Algerian market, after the record sales that it reached over the past years”.

“We are following with great interest the progress of Volkswagen factory in Algeria, and Renault factory as well, and the terms of PSA in the establishment of a plan in Algeria are not different from the conditions that were provided by both Renault and Volkswagen companies. I am optimistic that the Peugeot plant in Algeria will see the light soon, and optimistic about the Algerian authorities consideration for our industrial activity, as PSA intends to launch an industrial activity that goes in line with the desire of the Algerian authorities to encourage automakers”.

Jean-Christophe Quémard asserted that Peugeot Citroen company aims to establish an industrial activity in Africa that depends on three major factories, the first was launched in Morocco, and a ground was allocated for it, and it will begin production in 2018, and the second plant was agreed upon in Tunisia ,where it will produce 1200 vehicles of the type “pick-up”, and a third plant in Algeria will produce 75.000 vehicles per year, as these plants will contribute to the production of 70% of the vehicles that are marketed in Africa and in the Middle East.
