Repentant terrorist reveals terror plan in Algeria

A repentant terrorist Monday told Algerian security forces the so-called the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) is planning to carry out suicide attack in Algeria to mark the first anniversary of the December 11 bombings.

The 30-year-old man surrendered on Monday bringing with him a Kalashnikov and maps of terrorists’ hideouts. He mentioned to investigators all what he knows about terror plans in Boumerdes province (50 km east of Algeria) and other areas.

He gave security forces all details he gathered during the two years he had been working with terrorists.

Algerian military troops raided the place he talked about and discovered food, clothes and money stored in many hideouts.

Military operations are still going on in Boumerdes on the basis of the map the repentant terrorist had shown.

Last year, Algeria was rocked by two deadly suicide attacks on December 11 which targeted UN offices and the constitutional Council in Algiers.

Earlier on April 11th 2007, terrorist carried out two suicide attacks on the Government Palace and a police station in Algiers killing more than 20 people and wounding 162.
