The United States has covertly supplied the terrorist organization “AQIM” with undercover arms shipments through militias opposed to the former regime of Muamar Kadhafi, including heavy weapons and rockets which were later used in the terrorist assault against the gas facility of Tiguentourine in In Amenas in southern Algeria way back in January 2013 causing 39 victims and the elimination by Algerian forces of 29 terrorists of different nationalities.

A US intelligence report revealed, bearing the seal of “secret” and posted on a US website specialized in publishing security and military files said that military experts had conducted an investigation into some shady activities of the US state Department during the Hilary Clinton era.

They discovered that in 2011, Hilary Clinton was facilitating the delivery of weapons to “AQIM” terror group and that the then US Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, programmed the delivery of heavy arms in a confidential manner to militias belonging to “AQIM” with the connivance of Abdelhakim Belhadj, the leader of the current Libyan national party and some chieftains of the terrorist organization “AQIM” with on prime focus “Mokhtar Belmokhtar”, alias “Belaouar” who claimed to have engineered the Tiguentourine horrendous terrorist attack,

These US weapons destined to Libyan militias affiliated to the “AQIM” terrorist group were then secretly funneled to Libya via Turkey and Qatar.

The fact-finding report revealed the shadowy aspects in the US so-called war against terrorist organizations and their covert support for the “invisible”, stressing that Washington’s murky and dubious policy in Libya led to chaos and the disruption of oil and arms proliferation, and enabled terrorist groups to fester in Libya and elsewhere in the region.

In a bid to counter growing threats on its borders, Algeria staged numerous anti-terrorism operations in areas known to be “AQIM” hideouts after a security alert about possible terrorist operations to commemorate the second anniversary of Tiguentourine gas complex attack.

These coincided with the mobilization of thousands of army, gendarmerie, border guard and air force soldiers in several southern provinces including the borders with Libya, Mali and Niger. As a result, 11 terrorists were killed recently by Algerian security forces.

In the course of these counter-terrorism operations, surveillance held by military aircrafts contributed immensely to the success of the crackdown. Experts specializing in security affairs said that the country needs to “boost the combat capabilities and defense preparedness of its armed forces” and stressed the need to increase the military’s budget. They said it is “inevitable” if Algeria wants to stamp out terrorist attacks.

There are reports that Algeria could be strengthening its military and surveillance capacity with the latest technologies in order to quell the rising terrorist threats in the southern part of the country and along its eastern and southern borders with Libya and Mali.

Another attack on an oil plant could badly hurt Algeria’s economy as it struggles to recover from the January 2013 In Amenas plant terrorist assault which was then neutralized by ANP Special Forces after a siege of several days.
