Return of Algeria Berriane clashes: 15 persons wounded

About 15 people were injured Monday in clashes in the southern city of Berriane in Ghardaia province (south of Algeria).

• Private properties including houses and shops were damaged but calm relatively returned relatively after anti-riots police had control on the area.
• Clashes spread over neighboring cities where entries were surrounded. Because of that, the prefect moved there to check the situation. He called on rioters to calm down and not let Algeria’s enemies to seize the opportunity.”
• According to local sources, 12 people moved on a truck at 7 a.m. to a state-owned construction workshop in Berriane where they were surprised by men preventing them from entering and throwing stones.
• The truck was burnt and 10 of them were wounded including 4 in critical conditions, according to sources from hospital.
• For his part, the perfect of Ghardaia met with the city’s notables to intervene and have control on rioters.  He called for “prudence and restraint to maintain security and stability”.
