Russia is more interested in cooperating with Algeria, says Anbaa Moscu
Russian companies started laying a gas pipe from southern Algeria to Sharshal. Of them, a company is exploring a huge petroleum field in the vast Algerian desert and another one is interested in oil and gas projects in the area, according to Anbaa Moscu.

“Russia is also keen to explore possible phosphate sources in Algeria and ostensibly, build a plant for the production of nitrogen and phosphate there,” said the newspaper in a press release.
It described the Algerian-Russian relations as a “rollercoaster ride” since Vladimir Putin’s visit to Algeria in 2006 up to Dmitri Medvedev’s.
It says Algeria is an important geopolitical entity to Russia as it is 2nd only to Nigeria in production of natural gas on the continent and it has some 4,550 billion cubic metres reserve.
Rosneft, a company specializing in drilling and biological research, is exploring a huge petroleum field in the vast Algerian desert. Russian-owned heavyweight Lukoil is also interested in oil and gas projects in the area.
It also says the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Algeria and Russia raised concerns among European countries as they fear of a monopoly and price control on deliveries to Europe from their main suppliers of natural gas flared.
