For the first time since Algeria’s independence, the FLN party holds out officially its hand to the FFS party’s charismatic leader Hocine Aït Ahmed who is now settled in Switzerland.

In a historic letter sent Saturday to Aït Ahmed, the newly-appointed FLN secretary general, Amar Saâdani, expressed his gratitude and that of the head of state, Abdellaziz Bouteflika, to the FFS party leader, describing Hocine Aït Ahmed as a genuine freedom-fighter who had fought since his prime youth for Algeria’s freedom and independence from the harsh colonial yoke.

Amar Saâdani also extolled Aït Ahmed for his remarkable political itinerary at the head of the FFS party and brought out his consistency in the defense of his “noble principles” which guided him throughout his life.

He further hailed Aït Ahmed’s political actions and stances in favour of peace, reconciliation and national cohesion and unity as very positive.

The FLN Secretary General also described in his letter as a “big loss” the recent withdrawal of Hocine Aït Ahmed from the country’s political life, while calling on him on the occasion to come back shortly to the limelight in order to take part in the political dynamics underway in Algeria and to bolster the ranks of those imbued by the spirit of wisdom and patriotism.
