Security coverage reaches 88% in Algeria
Recruitment of the security and intervention groups to combat crime in Algeria led to a reduction in the use of weapons when arresting a dangerous criminal, Colonel Zgheida Djamel Abdessalam, head of the judicial police at the command of the national gendarmerie says.

Gendarmerie have currently 54 special security teams, each one includes 33 gendarmes, which is the equivalent of 1782 gendarmes of the special units who are ready to face the organized crime, including terrorism, as the number of units is being gradually increased.

Colonel Ayoub Abderrahmane, head of the contact cell at the national gendarmerie said the volume of the security coverage reached 88.25% at the national level, and the spread of gendarmes led to a decline of criminality in Algeria.

The national gendarmerie was keen to raise the number of its elements under the Dauphin plan 2009 to 43800 gendarmes and 5600 vehicles, 4100 motorcycles, 9 helicopters and 200 technical teams, as the gendarmerie units arrested 955 persons during June, July and August, including 354 in 14 coastal areas, and subjected about 77.000 persons and 30.000 vehicles for inspection in order to foil any criminal and terrorist plots during the summer season.
