Security forces arrest 40 followers of Al-Ahmaddiyya in Algeria
Security forces arrested 40 people involved in working for Al-Ahmaddiyya sect in the province of Setif. They held their secret meetings and performed their prayers in an apartment, Echorouk has learnt.
Books and brochures relating to Al-Ahmaddiyya were found inside the apartment. The suspects told security forces that they worked for the sect and revealed the identity of other activists. Their number is estimated at 33. They were introduced to justice. They were questioned and released. They are expected to appear in court.
Al-Ahmaddiyya was founded in Punjab, British India, near the end of the 19th century. Its spiritual leader Mirza Ghulam Ahmad claimed to have appeared in fulfilment of the prophecies concerning the world’s reformer during the end times. He claimed to have been divinely appointed as the renewer of Islam.
In Algeria, this sect is considered as an illegal movement which misleads people and deviates them from the right Muslim religion.
