Security guards involved in theft of 7.000 tons of sugar west of Algeria
12 accused stood trial Tueday before the criminal court of Oran, west of Algeria, mostly security agents in a private guards company and security guards in “Cevitalâ€, after they were caught stealing large quantities of sugar from the company’s warehouses trying to smuggle them towards Ain Tmouchent, west of Algeria.

An unidentified phone call exposed the plan which targeted the company charged with the import of sugar in the industrial Zone in El Karma. The thieves involved were security guards who tried to steal properties of the company instead of ensuring security there.

The institution became a scene of chase and shooting when the national gendarmerie intervened at 1 a.m on 8th August 2008, where three large-sized trucks were parked to carry the large robbery load.

After the hearing, the thieves were sentenced to 15 years in prison and a fine of one million dinars.
