Security services foil a terrorist plot targeting New Year's tourism southern Algeria

Mauritanian terrorist, who surrendered last weekend to the security services of Timimoun, southern Algeria, is a former terrorist at the “Tawhid and Jihad” movement, he is called “Abu Jandal” and works for the services of the Mauritanian security, he recently joined the movement of armed troops, in northern Mali and exactly in Timbuktu, Gao and Wiencourt, Echorouk sources say.

This terrorist is the group’s Mufti, and enjoyed its trust, and he was exploited but the Mauritanian security services, which took advantage of this trust and joined him to its ranks to protect the Mauritanian coast, so as to penetrate the movement in favor of the Mauritanian security intelligence, Echorouk sources added.

During the incursion of the terrorist group “Jihad and Tawhid”, which is composed of four men, including “Abu Jandal” and three others from Burkina Faso, Mali and Chad, on board of a Toyota Station with a Malian numbering Mali, that was carrying heavy weapons and explosives, mortars and enormous war ammunition, intending to plan a dangerous terrorist act in the depth of Algeria, and exactly in Adrar, southern Algeria.

They succeeded in penetrating Algeria borders from northern Mali, and exactly from the town of Gao, heading to the tourist city of Timimoun (southern Algeria), and as they passed the desert circuit of Ogrout, away from the municipality’s headquarters at 100 km north of the city of Adrar, they stopped in a free place for a break, then began plotting to blow up hotels and tourist places in Timimoun, during the New Year’s Celebration.

Abu Jandal sneaked out the place under the pretext of going to the toilet, and rode his car, which was far away, then fled, knowing that he was the driver and left his companions deep in the desert, and contacted directly the security services in Timimoun, where he was arrested and transferred to the regional group of the National
Gendarmerie, where investigations proved that the man is a an agent of the Mauritanian security services.
