Serbia 3-0 Algeria: “The Greens miss their cue at home versus indomitable Serbian squad”
For their first appearance against the Serbian national team, in the wake of the recent Africa Cup of nations in Angola, the Algeria football line-up was unfortunetaly not up to the mark by being trounced at home in a friendly international match Wednesday evening by a tough Serbian squad by 3 goals to nil.
-
After playing rather well during the first 20 minutes of the game, the Algerian players literally lost steam and began to give way notably after the first Serbian goal scored during the first half owing to a glaring blunder by goalkeeper Gaouaoui and his ill-positioned defensive line.
-
In the second half of the game, the Greens frantically endeavoured to score an early equalizer but to no avail.
-
Their helter-skelter offensive spurts produced nothing in the face of a well-organized Serbian team which showed a big potential of play and a seasoned cohesion contrary to the Fennecs who dismally missed several opportunities to score on account of their “anarchical” play and their lack of concentration inside the Serbian defense perimeter.
-
The second half was wholly under the sway of the Serbian players who added 2 other goals and succeeded easily in preserving their meritorious 3 goal advantage until the referee’s final whistle.
-
All things considered, Serbia’s victory was clear-cut and logical in view of their much attractive performance displayed at the 5th of July Olympic stadium in Algiers in the face of a listless Algeria squad whose manifold drawbacks in the three compartments of play should be duly corrected by national Rabah Saâdane and his technical staff before things go further awry in expectation of the 2010 World Cup contest.
-
It should be noted that the Algeria line-up has two other international warm-up fixtures on schedule, the next one versus Ireland on May 28th in Dublin and the other against the United Arab Emirates on June 4th, just a few days before the kick-off of the much-awaited World Cup football tournament in South Africa.
