Services of Control Seize Large Quantities of Corrupt Goods, Close Thousands of Shops

Services of control and repression of fraud seized, during the fifteen days of the holy month of Ramadan, more than 55 tons of corrupt food, as the spokesman for the National Union of Algerian Traders and Artisans, Hadj Tahar Boulanouar, said that more than 5.000 tons of products that are corrupt and unfit ‭ for consumption were commercialized in each Ramadan‭. ‬

According to the outcome of the Commerce Ministry, obtained by “Echorouk”, the agents of control have closed 715 shops and seized products worth 85.10 million dinars at the national level, during the first ten days of Ramadan, while 10.487 violations were registered during which 10.044 law suits agianst the owners of these shops were launched.

In the area of ​​quality control and suppression of fraud, the same services registered 4.716 offenses and opened 4.587 judicial law suits, with the administrative closure of 255 shops, as these interventions, according to the same outcome, allows the seizure products that violate the standards in work, or because they are unfit for consumption, at a quantity of 09.45 tons, valued at more than 5, 9 million dianrs.

In a related context, Ramadan 2012 noticed the largest number of interventions and raids, both in the mornings while fasting or after the Iftar (breakfast), having resulted in the sealing and closing of thousands of shops that did not respect the controls and health safety standards, led by red and whit meat, milk and its derivatives, and‭ also ‭bakeries ‭and shops of ‭making Ramadan ‭sweets, and shops of different food products.

Spokesman for the National Union of Algerian Traders and Artisans, Hadj Tahar Boulanouar, said over 5.000 tons of corrupt foods like canned goods, cheese, meat, desserts, and even spices, vegetables and fruits were commercialized after being irrigated with dirty water.

“More than 80% of spoiled food is commercialized by cells that are specialized in the parallel trade and chaotic POS, as the phenomenon of fraud, is largely spread in ​​the basic products’ trade, which is aggravated more during this month in view of ‭the growing demand, a ‭situation that is exploited by the traders as an opportunity for rapid profit to ‭the expense of citizens’ health.

For their part services of the Gendarmerie and Police seized corrupt foods with expired terms, not only in shops and streets but even in Ramadan aid that is directed to the needy, as gendarmerie also seized during last week end, significant quantities of fruit and vegetables which were irrigated with toilets’ water and referred dozens of peasants and farmers to the judicial authorities.
