Shrek named as best children's film ever made
Shrek has been named the best children's film ever made in a poll of adults.
-
The DreamWorks film, which hit the big screens in 2001, stars Mike Myers as the voice of the big green ogre along with Eddie Murphy as his side kick Donkey.
-
Despite initially appealing to children, the computer animated movie’s adult-orientated gags meant it soon became a firm favourite with the older viewers.
-
Now a poll of 3,000 adult movie fans named it the children’s film they most enjoy watching.
-
Second place in the poll went to Johnny Depp’s 2003 blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean.
-
“It has the simple plot and colourful characters keep the children entertained, but the jokes and adult humour make sure that it also keeps the older generation happy.”
-
Third place went to Disney/Pixar classic Finding Nemo, which tells the story of clownfish Nemo, who is stolen from his coral reef home by a diver to add to his fish tank in Sydney.
-
Toy Story was at number four while the first of the Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was at five.
-
Disney favourite The Lion King was voted into sixth place followed by Mrs Doubtfire and Monsters Inc.
-
Ice Age and Wallace and Gromit completed the top ten.
-
Other films to be included in the top 20 include Roald Dahl’s classic tale Matilda at 15, along with Disney classics Bambi at 19 and The Little Mermaid at 20.
