Situation in Sahel: Convergence of views between Algeria and France, says Valls
France and Algeria underline the convergence of views regarding the situation in Sahel, said Sunday here French Interior Minister Manuel Valls, who is on a two-day working visit to Algeria.
“The situation in the Sahel region is among the main issues we discussed and we have underlined the convergence of views between our two countries,” Valls told the press after his meeting with Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci.
The French interior minister said that they also talked about bilateral cooperation, adding that the two sides (Algeria and France) are convinced that the visit is a new step in bilateral relations.”
He also pointed out that his visit to Algeria is part of the preparation for the visit of French President François Hollande to Algeria, scheduled for early December.
In reply to a question about the MUJAO threatening to kill French hostages, he said that “the president of the Republic (Hollande) responded yesterday to the threats the most firmly.”
“French hostages must be released soon before it’s too late,” he said, adding that France will not yield to any threat.”
