SNC-Lavalin commits to help Algerian investigators in corruption cases

Canadian engineering firm SNC-Lavalin pledged to help Algerian judicial authorities in investigation on corruption cases, calling for opening a new page and “forgetting about this sad phase of the company’s history.”

According to observers, this commitment is an attempt to improve the firm’s image following a series of corruption scandals related to deals concluded with officials at Algeria’s Sonatrach and Sonelgaz.

SNC-Lavalin’s CEO said the firm is totally ready to cooperate in all the investigations and he called on all his employees to be cooperative. The company will introduce suspects into justice.

“We have the right to take legal measures against involved suspects and work on recovering money from them,” he said in his written commitment published on Algerian daily El Watan.

He also said SNC-Lavalin took additional measures to stop wrongdoings and made changes to sales employees’ administration.

Earlier in February, the Algerian authorities ordered to open an investigation into a corruption case related to illegal contracts between Italy’s Eni and Sonatrach.
