SNC Lavalin wins Hassi Messaoud new city contract
Canadian engineering group SNC Lavalin Saturday won a contract for the design and execution follow up for the new city of Hassi Messaoud (800 km south of Algiers), according to a statement from the project authority.

US-based Aecom, French IOSIS International and Korea Land Corporate (KLC) were along with SNC Lavalin bidding for the call for tender.

The government has launched the $6 billion project to meet the logistical needs of one of Algeria’s key energy producing areas.

The plan due to be achieved within 8 years is meant to protect urban areas from industrial dangers and respond to the increasing demand from companies located in Hassi Messaoud.

“Oil companies operating in the region including the state-owned Sonatrach will participate in funding the construction of their new headquarters at the site planned for the new city,” said Algerian Energy Minister Chakib Khelil.
