Snowfalls: Numerous roads cut to traffic in several Northern provinces of Algeria

Numerous roads in the central and eastern provinces of the country are still cut to traffic following the heavy snowfalls recorded over the past two days, according to a report issued Thursday by the Gendarmerie services.

 


  • In the eatern province of Tizi Ouzou, national roads 30 and 15 linking Tizi Ouzou to Bouira and the neighbouring municipalities are still cut to traffic in addition to national road 12 linking Tizi Ouzou to Bejaia at the level of the village of Tagma in the municipality of Zekri.

  • The latest snowfalls have brought about a marked drop in temperatures reaching sometimes minus zero Celsius in several cities and towns of the northern part of the country notably in Setif, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Guelma, Skikda, Souk Ahras, Mila and Constantine causing a number of disruptions notably concerning road traffic and the supply in butane gas cylinders used for cooking and heating on account of the biting cold.

  • Furthermore, the local civil protection squads had to intervene on many occasions to deal with emergency situations in several areas.
