Some foreign non-governmental organizations involved in spying activities in Algeria, says Interior Ministry
Nourredine Yazid Zerhouni, Algerian Interior Minister.

Reliable sources told Echorouk newspaper that the Ministry of the Interior and local assemblies has in its possession exhaustive reports clearly indicating that 5 non- governmental human rights organizations have been engaging, by proxy, in spying activities in Algeria.

These European-based non-governmental organizations have fostered regular contacts with numerous Algerian citizens as well as political parties and associations with the aim of securing first-hand information on Algeria’s political, economic, social, judicial and cultural life.

The Interior Ministry said that it had in its possession a list of many people who had been in close touch with these perfidious organizations whose only aim it says is to collect the maximum intelligence reports on Algeria in all sectors of activity.

The Interior Ministry reports say that several MP’s, as well as political party executives, trade unionists, journalists and university graduates and teachers had served as an information supply source for these so-called human-rights organizations which are funded, it says, by shadowy quarters hostile to Algeria.

Numerous academic research reports have been funded secretly by these organizations which allotted financial packages of up to 1 million dinars to some Algerian researchers and academics in exchange for thorough study reports highlighting Algeria ’s situation in all fields of endeavour.

According to Interior Ministry Nourredine Yazid Zerhouni, stringent measures will be taken to put an end to these perfidious activities by these inquisitive non-governmental organizations whose unavowed  objective, he said, is to pave the way for a Ukraine-style ” Orange Revolution” in Algeria.
