Some foreign pharmaceutical laboratories are not that healthy, SAIDAL’s manger says

The general manager of the Algerian giant pharmaceutical group “SAIDAL”, Ali Aoun, Sunday denounced the ruthless attack conducted by more than 123 importers and foreign medical laboratories which aims to tear down the Algerian pharmaceutical industry.

He said that some laboratories do not respect the “rule of the game” and step on the Algerian legislation considering that the health of millions of Algerians is at stake, but the relevant authorities didn’t act accordingly to stop infringement.

M Aoun added that SAIDAL group never asked the government to apply an interventionist policy to protect his consortium from foreign laboratories operating on the Algerian market, but requested a fair competition and a total respect of the regulations stressing the fact that he is content to the fact that his group is regularly registering a steady an increase of 10% each year, which is hard to achieve even by the major laboratories worldwide.

He declared that the Algerian regulation doesn’t encourage investments in the medical sector, because it is a complete nonsense, according to him, to talk about domestic production in a market turned hundred per cent to importation

Giving an example to his argumentation, M Aoun said that it is ludicrous that the Algerian Central Pharmacy, for instance, is paying hard currency to a foreign laboratory, which is monopolizing the Algerian market since more than 40 years, for insulin while his group is producing a similar product with the same standards.

M Aoun declared that his group is considering the idea of opening the capital of his consortium to a certain degree, providing to find a partner with an international credibility possessing the required technology so as to export SAIDAL’s products abroad.
