The accusation chamber in a court in Algiers ordered to put suspects in the Sonatrach 2 case in temporary prison and to put former CEO and finance minister under judicial surveillance, Echorouk has learnt.

This comes as defense lawyers made a plea against the examining judge’s decision to put the suspects in temporary prison on April 6th

Of them, research department director and an official at Sonatrach in charge of commercial activities have been under judicial surveillance since 2010 over a former corruption case.

The accusation chamber decided to put them in temporary prison following results of investigations conducted by Italian, Swiss and Spanish courts.

Hearings over the Sonatrach 2 case started early in April. M.N. is accused of receiving bribes by former energy minister Chakib Khelil’s cousin who lives in Turkey. She also knows Khelil’s principal private secretary.
