Sonatrach creates its International Holding Corporation (SIHC): 15 participations in foreign companies
Sonatrach holds direct participations including 15 companies and foreign projects in Algeria and abroad, according to the financial balance of the Algerian oil company 2009.
- Among the most important holdings, including in particualr those of 2.23% stake in Energias de Portugal for a total of 341.87 million euros.

This stake goes back to 2007. At that time, Sonatrach had planned to climb up to 5% in the capital of the Portuguese energy company based on which it wanted to expand into the Spanish market. But since then, things have not changed.

Other substantial holdings by Sonatrach abroad: two pipeline Medgaz and Galsi, with respectively 36% and 41.61% of shares. The national oil company also operated through its subsidiary Mauritania Naftec SA which owns 51% and 33% stake in the Mauritanian Gas Company.

Finally, Sonatrach has its own holding abroad: Sonatrach International Holding Corporation (SIHC) which holds 100% of whose capital is 282.02 million dollars.
