Sonatrach to review its security strategy

The state- run hydrocarbons company , Sonatrach, general manager Abdelhamid Zerguine has yesterday announced that his group is discussing a bunch of security measures to protect its gas and petroleum complexes in the wake of the terrorist attack that targeted the gas plant of Tinguentourine , Ain Amenass two weeks ago.

He noted that the currently applied security measures are no more efficient as they go back to the nineties.

Talking to the national radio, Zetguine declared” Sonatrach group has conducted a large –scale audit inside the company and the operation will include the security matters at Sonatrach and its partners”

He went on saying” The audit will be conducted in collaboration with the security services and there will be , most probably, an additional support to this sector”.

In a response to a question over the security measures around Sonatrach and its foreign partners, the General Manger has indicated that the company cannot act on its own because it is bound by the Algerian legislation.

Zerguine was evasive in his reply on a question whether the security strategy applied currently in the oil fields should be reviewed saying that if the matter requires the revision of the law “the government will apply it”.
