South Africa kicks off World Cup ad campaign

The World Cup 2010 Organising Committee has launched its advertising campaign for the Intercontinental Cup 2009 and the World Cup 2010, according to sources in the committee.

• Ahead of Spain’s 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Belgium Thursday in the Belgian capital, the Chief Executive Officer of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee Danny Jordaan paid the Spanish team a visit. The players are in a training session in Brussels Wednesday.

• Jordaan along with the tournament’s Official Mascot Zakumi handed the Spanish captain Casillas and coach Vicente Del Bosque a specially made Spanish replica team shirt bearing the official emblem of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009. The Spaniards triumphed at Euro 2008 in Vienna last June.

• “We brought Zakumi to Brussels to meet the Spanish team and the response from the fans has just been wonderful. The reaction to Zakumi has been warm and welcoming and he certainly generates a lot of energy and excitement. If the response to Spain and Zakumi is anything to go by, we’re sure to have a huge celebration in our country next year and during the 2010 FIFA World Cup” said Jordaan.

• In a previous interview with Echorouk, Jordaan said South Africa will impress the world for having organized the World Cup in Africa for the first time.

• “The forthcoming Intercontinental Cup is just a casting a year before the biggest football event,” he said.
