South African film and TV Week in Algiers

South African film and TV festival will be organized from 22 to 29 October in Algiers. This cultural festival pays tribute to the South African Cinema and TV; and coincides with the second convention of the African Ministers of culture, 22 and 23 October.

  • South Africa is the only sub-Saharan country in Africa that developed movie industry since the 20th century through the use of professional systems and organisation.However, this industry has been  largely used by the Apartheid system in this country since 1948.
  • Many South African movies will be screened during this week at Mohamed Zinet cinema in Algiers. A documentary, secretly filmed in South Africa in 1972 entitled “Last grave in Dimpaza” will be presented  as well. It tells the various stages of colonialism and Apartheid in South Africa.
  • The week of South African cinema and TV comes after the cinema Festival of Ouagadougou(FESPACO) from 8 to 22 October 2008 in Algiers.
