Southern oil company’s workers go on hunger stirke

Dozens of employees from production division of the regional department of the giant oil company “Sonatrach”, refrained from taking yesterday’s lunch as solidarity gesture for their fellow workers in Hassi Messaoud and Ain Amennas (southern Algeria), who were “humiliated” by the company’s general office, according to sources.

• Since July 16 dozens of employees working in Hassi R’Mel were organizing peaceful sits- in by the supply base to march towards the giant industrial complexes.
• The workers’ hunger strike was prompted by the company’s reluctance to accede to their social and professional requests, and also as a reaction against the “shameful” pay rise decided by the biggest company in the country.
