Southerners threaten to go to the streets to react against power cuts
People's National Assembly

Several MPs from the southern parts of Algeria expressed their worries about eventual riots in these regions as a reaction against redundant power shortages, while local authorities didn’t react accordingly to solve the problem.

  • In this respect, 22 MPs representing 7 southern cities addressed a formal request to the Algerian mines and energy minister, Chakib Khellil asking him to intervene before the company’s facilities in the cities of Ouargla, Laghouat, Oued, Ghardaia, Tamanrasset and Biskra to make an end to this situation, especially that the population is in dead need of power as the use of air conditioning and other cooling devices are in a constant rise during this period of time.
  •  Temperatures in these regions hit record high over the last few days reaching 55° all day long.
