Spain calls upon Algeria to Pay Costs of illegal Immigrants' Treatment
Spanish authorities took new measures related to operations of medication for illegal immigrants who live in Spain without documents, and who are nationals of several countries such as Algeria, Morocco, Romania and some Latin America countries.
The Spanish authorities will calculate the expenditures for treatment
and medication at the expense of the governments of the illegal
immigrants’ countries, which will be asked to pay the invoice.
General Manager of the Spanish Health System and pharmaceutical
services, Mr. Agustin Riviero, told the National Radio, that a series
of measures related to medication and treatment have been taken for
the benefit of the illegal immigrants who do not have documents of
residence, and who live on the Spanish soil, as the Spanish health
services will ensure treatment and medication for them, especially for
those who suffer chronic diseases, but the authorities of illegal
immigrants’ countries should pay for this service, especially the
countries which have a considerable number of illegal immigrants in
Spain such as Algeria, Morocco, and some Latin American countries,
countries which are linked by the bilateral agreements of cooperation
with Spain.
”Spain has enough bilateral cooperation agreements which allow the
application of new procedures”, he added.
“When the Spanish nationals receiving treatment abroad by the health
services of these countries, the services of the Spanish Social
Security pay dues to these countries, and therefore, these countries
are asked to pay dues of their nationals, including the illegal
immigrants to the Spanish Social Security, to help the Spanish
party”, he explain
