Spanish ambassador to Algeria: “There are not dead bodies of Algerian illegal immigrants in Spainâ€
There are no dead bodies of Algerian illegal immigrants in Spain, after the six that were returned to Algeria in 2009, Spanish Ambassador to Algeria Gabriel Busquets said on Thursday.
Â
- “Under any circumstances Spanish authorities can not hand over a dead body only after being subject to DNA analysis. We cannot bury dead bodies of persons who are not yet identified because the Spanish law prevents this. We take a sample of DNA stored in the banks of data in case a family claims the dead body, if the dead body’s DNA is identical to the one of a member of family we hand it over”, Spanish Ambassador adds during the round table by the Algerian Council on the ties between Algeria and the EU.
- The ambassador confirmed that the number of Algerian illegal immigrants coming to Spain has decreased dramatically in 2010 compared to previous the years.
- “Decrease in the number of illegal immigrants due to the lack of jobs in Spain due to the economic crisis and efforts by the Algerian authorities and cooperation between the two countries to combat this phenomenon. Spain recorded fifty illegal immigrants on its coasts in 2009”.
- The ambassador has refuted the fact that Spanish authorities burned the dead bodies of Algerian illegal immigrants.
- Conversely, families of the Algerian illegal immigrants continue their calls to the Algerian authorities in order to coordinate with European countries in order to help them find their sons, who did not appear since years.
