Spanish authorities deny assistance to Algerian illegal immigrant

The authorities of the transit camp of the city of Mellila, Spain, have refused to give assistance to an Algerian illegal immigrant and left him lying unconscious under the sun for long hours and denied him entry or even first aid treatment.

• The photo of the young Algerian lying on the pavement opposite the camp’s main gate hit the local media headlines that relayed the tragic story of the desperate illegal immigrant who failed along with a group of his fellow citizens to embark on a truck laden with glass bound to Spain through a boat.

• The young Algerian was hit by debris of glass while seating in the truck that caused him severe haemorrhage, but the camp’s authorities didn’t give assistance to him, nor called the emergencies.

• The photo of the illegal immigrant outraged the local community that forcefully denounced the attitude of the authorities in charge of the camp, considering that they should have intervened to help an individual in danger
