State of alert in southern Algeria

National Army troops in southern Algeria have been placed in a state of high alert because of terrible increasing number of stolen cars and trucks in Ouargla, Ghardaia, Laghouat, Tamenrasset and Adrar, according to security sources.

These stolen vehicles might be used in terrorist attacks or in smuggling prohibited materials, said the same sources.

These gangs have intensified thefts through most important ways in the five provinces especially in Elmnia, Hassi Lafhal in Ghardaia and Adrar. Most thefts have been carried out with weapons. That proves that they have relations with terrorist groups, according to the same sources.

Army forces have strengthened their presence in many strategic locations in a step for a rapid and effective intervention to stop any terrorist attacks in the eastern south. Special security troops are patrolling the oil sites roads, in addition to night patrols of the National Gendarmerie for quick intervention.
