Stiffened security measures in the southern provinces pending the local elections

The Algerian National Army has raised the level of alert since the beginning of this week in the mountainous areas of Kabylia region known for being terrorist activities’ strongholds in the eve of the local elections slated for November 29.

• Reliable sources have revealed to Echourouk that the Algerian ministry of defence has instructed its troops to intensify their control on the borders few days before the elections. The military forces were summoned to carry out combing operations in the provinces located in borders of the neighboring countries like Adrar, Tamnarsset and Ilizi .
• Instructions were also given to the national gendarmerie forces to stiffen the security measures around public buildings and military barracks as well as the oil companies in order to avert any terrorist attack.
• Police elements and gendarmerie squads have intensified their presence in the strategic areas in order to secure the smooth running of the local elections slated for next Thursday.
• As part of the preventive plan, the security forces have tightened security measures around the public places and markets as well as the main streets and bus transport stations.
