“Swine Flu”: Algeria maps out national plan and imports millions of protective masks
The Ministry of Health and Hospitals Reforms strengthened its stockpiles of masks in order to distribute them to the doctors and staff of the ports and airports for free as an initial preventive measure to protect the Algerian population in case of the outbreak of the “swine flu†in Algeria . Leaflets on H1N1 virus were distributed to doctors in most hospitals which are following the evolution of the epidemic in conjunction with the Health Ministry through the holding of seminars and training courses.

The Emergency Cell at the Ministry of Health confirms that the national plan to combat the respiratory epidemics is ready for application at any time after intensification of coordination with the sectors concerned.

The Health Minister gave Tuesday instructions to the members of the cell, during the daily meeting, for the preparation of all the conditions to activate the national plan to combat the respiratory epidemics as quick as possible to be ready for monitoring any case of a “swine flu” outbreak in Algeria.

Belkassem Salim, spokesman of the Ministry said, “The Ministry of Health has sufficient stocks of protective respiratory masks, after it bought millions of units to distribute them freely to doctors and specialists in treating epidemics as well as staff in ports and airports and border posts who are assigned to control the arrivals of passengers from abroad, particularly, people who come from countries that recorded cases of Swine Flu. Protective masks will also be distributed to citizens if there would be any case of H1.N1 virus in Algeria.

Last report by the WHO explains that the number of Swine Flu cases in the world reached Thursday 105 cases, including 64 in USA, 6 in Canada, 3 in New Zealand, 2 in UK, Spain and Israel, while Mexico declared death of 152 people and recorded over 1995 infected since the emergence of the epidemic on April 13.
