Taxes on new vehicles is an irreversible decision, says Algerian Finance Minister

Algerian Finance Minister Karim Djoudi has said that the government will not go back on its decision to impose taxes on new vehicles stressing that such a move is an economic choice.

Replying to Echorouk’s question about the fears and recriminations expressed by a host of car dealers established here in Algeria about the recent tax imposition, Mr. Djoudi said that the government’s objectives was only to better regulate and streamline the vehicle market in the country before it becomes uncontrollable.

Karim Djoudi added that the car dealer’s apprehensions were uncalled for, stressing that if they wanted to boost their sales here, they should opt instead for direct investments in Algeria by getting involved in car – manufacturing on Algerian soil.

The Finance Minister further indicated that the Algerian car market share in the whole world market was estimated at 2.8 billion dollars.
