Teachers’ weak level behind school failure in Algeria, say reports
The main reason behind school failure is teachers’ weak level. Most of them are hired without taking any methodology and pedagogy courses, assessment reports find.
School programs reduction had a negative impact on pupils’ performance. Some courses are not adequate to their level and some books are not functional, says the reports which assessed Algeria’s 10-year-education reforms.
They recommended to unify arts subject coefficients in junior high school and to raise them for scientific subjects. Coefficients should also be integrated in primary school subjects.
The same reports stressed the necessity of coordination between national education and higher education ministries about teachers’ training.
Algerian education minister Abdelatif Baba Amer told journalists his department is ready to meet teachers’ demands.
“The ministry met all the demands. Equality between headmasters and teachers does not mean that headmasters will be deprived of their rights because they benefit from advantages related to their positions,” he said.
Speaking about south allowance, he said Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal gave strict instructions to revise it.
