Ten barons of drug and weapons smuggling gangs arrested in 2010 South of Algeria
Units of the Algerian border guards and teams of the regional gendarmerie of the third region in Bechar, South of Algeria, arrested ten barons of drug smuggling from Algeria and the Sahel region such as Mali, Mauritania and Morocco, who use narrow ports to escape security control.
Same units aborted the smuggling of a large quantity of drugs which reached over 12 tons in 2010, let alone on the recovery of a machine gun-type “FMPK”, as well as a significant amount of war ammunition, five mobile phones-type “Thoraya”, and dozens of cars of type “Toyota Station”.
Statistics of the third security region show that the pace of besieging smugglers increased in terms of arrested and seized quantities of drug compared to 200, which exceeded all expectations, with 50 tons, while the number of smugglers and arrested did not exceed five people.
Although most of the clashes ended in the arrest of members belonging to smuggling gangs, which were considered by some people as a precious fish, but those arrested did not possess documents which show their identities, as well as the lack of recognition for those who stand behind the engineering of smuggling operations, and if they recognize those names, investigation found that they are fake names, thing which prevents sending them to Interpol for issuance of an international warrant.
