Terrible fire sparks panic in Algiers social aid centre near Qatar's embassy

Residents of the social urgency centre in Dali Brahim (in Algiers) experienced a state of terror Monday because of a terrible fire which damaged a large part of the centre considered the only at the level of the capital Algiers.

• Tragic incident caused two old men’s death and other peoples’ wound, this fire destroyed five chalets where 140 people lived, who managed to escape immediately after the fire ignition in chalet n° 3, except the two victims, one of them is blind and the other one is old.
• According to testimonies by number of residents and officials who moved there in order to determine the fire effects, and they discovered that it broke out within 2:00 AM and continued until 6:00 AM; it was almost disastrous, fortunately civil protection interests intervened in right moment.
• Crisis cell was formed, it is headed by general secretary of Algiers mandate in addition to the viceroy director of the administrative department of Chraga(in Algiers), and directors of the social activity, health and civil protection of Algiers, they all decided after a meeting to deport 100 peoples who became homeless to other social centres, including 33 men were turned into elderly centre of Bab Ezzouar ( Algiers), 34 case to Dar Al Hasana in Zegara, and 7 families to Dali Brahim’s elderly centre, where as urgency centre received five families.
• Most residents’ deportees are 9 single mothers, 18 mothers without children, five divorced women, 20 mentally sick men and 47 homeless men.
• Solidarity Minister promised completion of new aid centre
• Minister of solidarity Djamel Wald Abbas promised to build the largest centre for social aid at the national level where all homeless people can live, and perhaps it will replace Dali Brahim’s centre.
• Informed sourced told Echorouk that Dali Brahim’s centre will be eliminated later on because it is located near to the Qatar embassy in Algeria, and also near a number of embassies which will be built in the new diplomatic street of the foreign affairs ministry, including UAE and Oman’s embassies.
