Djamila Bouhired

The iconic revolutionary figure Djamla Bouharid has broken silence and reacted forcefully to the media uproar in the wake of her call on the Algerian authorities including president Abdelaziz Bouteflika to stand for her medical care’s charges abroad, stressing that she doesn’t fear anybody and is used to death alarms.

  • Talking in a telephone conversation, the feminine symbol of the Algerian revolution added” death has become my friend as it paid a visit to me three times during the revolutionary period, and I’m not afraid of it especially at my age”.
  • Outraged by the media campaign over her sudden and unexpected declarations to the press, Djamila Bouhired has bluntly asserted “Fifty years of silence is enough”. When she was asked why she didn’t seek assistance from the authorities in the past, the lady replied “I was brought up in a dignified family”, hinting to her denial of any kind of material help or official position.
  • Mrs Djamila Bouhired went to say “ We are among those people who feel uncomfortable when it comes to seek help, I didn’t do it in the past but my deteriorating health condition compelled me to do so;  I’ve never been under the spotlights on TV sets, never stolen or betrayed “.
  • Echoing the great poet Nezar Kebbani, the lady has declared refusing to play the host for numerous people who offered their help because her house was not big enough to shelter them all, but seized this opportunity to thank and express her gratitude to her admirers” The sons of liberty are my sons, I thank them all for offering me help”,  as she put it.
  • The call of this lofty symbol didn’t fall on deaf ears, as many financial institutions including “Al Baraka Bank” got in touch with the newsroom of Echorouk to ask for the lady’s address or coordinates in order to assist her.
