The Algerians of Gaza-bound freedom flotilla receive hero's welcome in Algiers

The 31 Algerians who took part in the humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza were welcomed on Thursday morning as heroes at Algiers international airport after being repatriated from the Jordanian capital Amman.

  • The 31 Algerians returned home safe and sound except for one: MP Mohamed Douibi who remained in Amman for an eye surgical operation after being injured by Israeli troops during the ill-fated Israeli assault on the humanitarian flotilla earlier this week in international waters off the coast of Gaza.
  •
  • A triumphant welcome full of emotion was given to the returnees.
  •
  • A large crowd of citizens as well as several officials greeted warmly these pacifist militants including doctors, students and lawmakers who had shown a lot of courage and determination in the face of the callous Israeli soldiers during the storming of the freedom flotilla whose only aim was to bring a humanitarian assistance with food and medical supplies to the besieged population of Gaza.
  •
  • Shortly after their arrival at Algiers international airport; several of the returnees headed for the premises of the newspaper “Echorouk” where they received a hearty welcome by the newspaper personnel amid a feast-like and colourful atmosphere until late into the night.
