The Greens attached to Blida stadium despite insults
Rabeh Saadane

The dark point of the friendly match between the Algerian football squad and Benin was the insults addressed by some supporters to Es Setif’s players in Tchaker stadium in Blida (70 km west of Algiers).

  • The supporters were angry at Hadj Aissa, Slimane Rahou, Lamouri Djedyat and Khaled Lemouchya as Es Setif had defeated their favourite team USMB of Blida.
  • In spite of all pressures, the ‘Greens’ and their coach Rabeh Saadane agreed on continuing playing the qualification matches in the same stadium as part of the preparation for the 2010 World Cup / Africa Cup of Nations competition.
  • The stadium is now considered as a ‘lucky charm’ for the players who were not defeated in the previous qualifications.
  • Rahou: we will continue playing in Blida
  • Slimane Rahou was the most insulted player by supporters. However, he said what had happened was negative but it was part of the game. “I refuse to leave Blida stadium for another place to play.”
  • Djedyat: there must be a difference between teams and the national squad
  • Lamouri Djedyat was very frustrated for being insulted as “supporters should have made the difference between the local teams and the national squad.”
  • He believes continuing playing in Blida is the best solution.
  • Saadane: playing in the 5 Juillet stadium is impossible
  • The national coach Rabeh Saadane said Blida staduium remains the most suitable place for the ‘Greens’ in terms of the forthcoming qualifications.
  • “Playing again in the 5 Juilllet stadium is unreasonable. I defy everyone that the stadium would be ready before next June,” he told Echorouk.
