The “Greens” of Algeria vow to make good showing in Angola

The players of the Algerian national football squad and the technical staff have left Southern France on a special flight bound for Luanda in expectation of the kick – off of the long-awaited Africa Cup of Nations contest due to be hosted by Angola between the 10th and 31st of January 2010.

The national football team and the technical staff were due to be welcomed on their arrival by a delegation from the Algerian Football Federation which has been in this African country for about a week now to ensure that the stay of the Algeria line – up in Angola would take place in the most appropriate conditions in terms of training, accommodation, catering and rest.

Sources close to the national squad say that all the players are hale and hearty and fully determined to make a brilliant showing in this major African competition.

The same sources also say that the players have vowed to do everything possible to go far in this African tournament.

The FAF Federation is said to have enjoined the players to go as far as the semi-finals as the highest objective and why not to reach the final, to crown it all.

The Greens will undertake a first training session tomorrow under the guidance of seasoned national coach Rabah Saâdane at the Luanda stadium, 24 hours after their arrival in the Angolan capital.

FAF chairman Mohamed Raouraoua and national coach Rabah Saâdane have been sensitizing the players to the paramount importance of the first match versus Malawi scheduled for Monday January 11th in Luanda.

They exhorted all the players to remain concentrated and vigilant during this decisive confrontation versus Malawi in order to wrench a salutary and precious victory which will have a priceless weight for the rest of the competition.

Well informed sources revealed in the meantime that national coach Rabah Saâdane had already made up his mind about the composition of the squad who will face on Monday Malawi.

Barring certain last-minute changes to be made by coach Saâdane, the 11 starting players to face Malawi will include Chaouchi as goalkeeper, Halliche, Bougherra, Zaoui and Belhadj as defenders, in the midfield Saâdane will certainly retain Lamouchia, Yebda, Ziani and Meghni and Ghezzal and Matmour will be chosen as forward strikers.

Antar Yahia and Rafik Saïfi who are quickly recovering from past injuries will be probably incorporated in the line-up during the second match versus Mali, according to the same sources.
