These are the workers concerned with minus 5 years prior to retirement

A tripartite commission made up of representatives of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA), employers and the government is slated to hold a meeting in Algiers after the upcoming Eid al-Adha feast, to put the finishing touches to the list of very strenuous professions whose workers will benefit from pre-retirement that is starting from 55 years old compared to the provisions of the newly-adopted law setting the legal age for retirement to 60 years old for all workers in Algeria.

The list of such professions will comprise firstly “stressful” effects related to works that could illness and death, for a certain category of workers and secondly arduous jobs causing moral damage, which affect this second group of workers during the fulfillment of their work contracts.

The representative of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA), Ammar Takajout, said in a statement to “Echorouk” that the discussions about these “arduous” professions would be officially launched after the Eid al-Adha, that is after the 12th of September 2016 through a Tripartite Commission composed of representatives of the General Union of Algerian workers, the government and the employers, who will draft the final roster of these strenuous professions in order to enforce the pre-retirement procedure devoted solely for this segment of workers.

He added that this standing file will be subjected to a second screening, on the part of experts specialized in social security affairs and occupational medicine and occupational safety, through the drafting of inventory statistics recorded over the past years.

Our interlocutor further noted that the projected list of such arduous jobs will include workers involved in drilling and exploration operations and staff working in building and public works, factories, and workers under the noise pressure or chemicals notably in medical laboratories, as well as sailors and port workers, in addition to the workers facing under high temperatures like those working at the El Haddjar iron and steel complex unit of Annaba in far-eastern Algeria.
