Tonic’s workers call for Algerian President Bouteflika’s intervention to save their lives

Representative of Tonic Company demanded intervention of union Secretary General Abdelmadjid Sidi Saidin order to protect more than 4,000 workers and their families. They are threatened by unemployment after the serious situation of “Tonic factory” which is placed under judicial control.

  • Workers’ representative also filed a quick lawsuit in Sidi Mhamed court in Algiers against the company’s judicial representative, Rachid Bouraoui accusing him of “sabotage”, in addition to Djerrar, family owner and manager of this company. The bank of agriculture and rural development Badr is also involved for granting loans to achieve all these investments without giving it enough time to pay.
  • Workers also presented a request to the Attorney General in Algiers court to open an investigation about these abuses presumed against the company’s representative. They decided to protest and go on peaceful food strikes accompanied by their families.
  • Keddad Mahfoud, spokesman of these workers confirmed that they noticed dozens of abuses and serious breaches, which led them talk and move to bring an action.
  • Workers submitted a request to Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to personally intervene, impose the law and save them from hunger and loss.
