Traffic accidents kill 32 in a week
At least 32 people perished and 546 were injured in 461 street accidents in a week 27 December 2008 to 2 January 2009 in various regions of Algeria, civil protection authority says.

Death toll lowered by -3 and injuries rose by +229 compared to the same period of last year.

Previously, a report by the civil protection directorate said causes behind these street accidents are lost of control over cars for 108 cases, speed 90 and codes violations 41.

The Emergency Services, DGPC, reported that 603 Algerians killed and 8.650 injured in traffic accidents since the beginning of 2008, adding that 6 people die everyday.

In Algeria there is a clear need for a wide-ranging control program under a nationally organized body. Accident prevention also calls for social awareness; to fight this tragedy. This can only be done if safety conditions are gathered and laws are respected.
